Traditional moxibustion or “moxa” uses the burning of the herb mugwort. Mugwort can help with a variety of ailments by dispersing cold. stopping bleeding, and with its sedating effects.
Mugwort can be formed into small cones and placed over acupuncture points. This is another way to stimulate these points and provides an extra warming benefit.
Often we may use an alternative to burning mugwort for a smokeless option with charcoal. This provides similar effects and is better suited for small spaces and those who don’t tolerate smoke well.
